Tough Love and Tiger Woods

Observations

How different would our world be if most women used a gold club instead of a lawyer when dealing with a cheating husband.  Of course I am referring to Tiger Woods and his recent row with his wife  Elin Nordegren.

It looks as though Tiger has been unfaithful to his wife at least once and maybe several times during their marriage.  The public will probably never know every detail of what Tiger has been up to and that is for the best.  However, Tiger’s mysterious car crash of the past week and the circumstances surrounding the crash seem to indicate that his wife decided to act upon Tiger’s infidelity.

Instead of calling a divorce lawyer  it appears that she picked up a gold club and gave her husband a lesson on Tough Love.  The battered Tiger was reported to be wavering in and out of consciousness when the police arrived on the scene of his car accident.  (While driving it’s hard to avoid trees and hydrants when ones head is swimming from being clobbered by a golf club.)  He had injuries on his face that required treatment at a nearby hospital.  He was shoeless.  His auto windows were bashed out.  His wife stood nearby with golf club in hand.   Nike is Tiger’s sponsor.  One has to wonder if some of his facial injuries will bruise into the shape of a Nike logo.

Some of my friends seem to think his wife broke out with the golf club because she hates him for what he did.  I have a gut feeling that this is not the case.

The moral of the story is obvious but time will tell whether Tiger learned a lesson from it.  Thus far he has been man enough to take his lumps without crying to the police… without slapping her with a restraining order… without throwing her out of the house… all actions of choice for the emasculated.   Good for him.

The Pill and the Rise of the Girly-man

Observations

I ran across this article at the UK Daily Mail…

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1218808/Contraceptive-pill-women-attracted-masculine-men–interested-boyish-looks.html#comments

As western men become more and more emasculated western women should have a wide selection of girly-men to select from.  Women have the luxury of selecting effeminate mates during times like these, where most places in the western sphere of influence their rights are guaranteed.  However, it looks as though we are headed into some not so civilized times where government and society might prove less able to guarantee personal rights and safety to the public at large to include women.  Already there are parts of Europe where western women feel obliged to cover their heads because they fear the muslim men who live around them. Where are their men who should be looking after their safety? Probably busy getting their backs waxed.

The Swine Flu’s Gonna Get You!

Observations

The whole swine flu hype is starting to get seriously annoying.  Apparently swine flu is moving about the world waiting for its chance to get real nasty when the weather gets cold in the Northern Hemisphere.

The weather is already cold in Argentina where it is now winter.  The swine flu is making itself known but it seems to pack more bark then bite.  Here is a NYT article from early July 09…

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/04/world/americas/04argentina.html?_r=1

It reports 2800 confirmed cases  of the swine flu (perhaps up to 100K unconfirmed).  Officials contribute 44 deaths to swine flu.  Whew!  That’s not exactly scary sounding.   It just does not sound scary enough to justify the hype.   However, from a drug manufacturer’s perspective the hype is helping to  create wealth on an enormous scale.

Governments all over the world are ordering swine flu vaccine even though there is no evidence that the vaccine will prevent anyone from getting sick.  Also the vaccine has not been properly tested and presents a risk for the vaccinated.  The vaccine may well do more harm then good but who really cares about risk as long as the pharmaceutical companies bag a fortune during the supposed crisis?

It’s interesting to note that it is the governments that are buying the vaccine to use on the peoples of the world.  If it were left up to world citizens to pay for their own shots I think that much less money would probably be made by the pharmaceuticals and their political minions.  By governments jumping in to save the day we all pay, regardless of whether we want a shot or not.   We pay and the drug companies and their cronies profit.

To make the whole mess smell even worse, there is talk of forcing people to receive the vaccine.  The vaccine has not been properly tested to ensure it does what it is supposed to do.  It has not been tested to ensure that it does not cause harmful side effects.  If your children are harmed by the vaccine your legal options are limited by law.  If the vaccine harms you your legal options are limited by law.

It’s a sweet deal for the drug companies as they offer a product that consumers are possibly forced to consume.  They are protected from lawsuits by the government. They make a boat load of money while doing it.

France returns to NATO.

Observations

France announced this week that it is ending its 40 year break from NATO.  You can read about it HERE but in a nutshell the French government has decided non-membership in NATO now threatens its independence.  An odd perspective considering the French pulled out of NATO because Charles de Gaulle thought that membership undermined Frances sovereignty.

What has changed that led to Frances change of heart?  NATO is slowly morphing into a tool of the EU’s “High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy”.  This office is currently held by Javier Solana.  Here’s a list of Solana’s responsibilities and titles…

Solana is easily the most powerful man in Europe having control over EU defense and policies.  He certainly has one of the largest titles. In 2003 he crafted an agreement with NATO giving his office control of NATO assets during crisis situations.    NATO has many assets and some of them are nuclear

During his announcement Mr Sarkozy said there was no sense in France - a founder member of Nato - having no say in the organisation’s decisions on military strategy.  ”This rapprochement with Nato ensures our national independence,” said Mr Sarkozy. “To distance ourselves would limit our independence and our room for manoeuvre. We have to be progressive,” he said. “A solitary nation is a nation that has no influence whatsoever. We need strong diplomacy, a strong defence and a strong Europe.”

If NATO has become the EU’s military instrument then France can no longer afford to not be involved.

A Riddle (by joe-bow):

Two heads have I, arrogant and sly.

One says snay, the other says snee.

Their sole purpose is to show what you see.

Power’s my lust, not fame.

And at the proper hour, what’s yours’ is mine to devour.

A few thoughts about gun control

Observations

I have been reading about the increase in gun sales since Obama was elected president.   Democrats favor more strict gun control laws.    This causes people who support a  liberal view of the 2nd Amendment to buy guns while they can.

Democrats have their stated reasons for advancing gun control.  The arguments are such a dead horse that I don’t want to waste time rehashing them.  There is, however, a reason that is not discussed and I believe it forms the basis of the entire gun control debate.  The reason is fear.

We live in a society that is plagued by fear.  People are afraid of the economy, they are afraid of the terrorists, women are afraid of men, white people are afraid of black people,  black people are afraid of discrimination, parents fear their kids’ bullies at school, people are afraid of violence in their neighborhoods etc, etc…  I could go on an on naming the things that Americans are told to be afraid of.  Our increasingly emasculated society is afraid of its own shadow.

Gun control is another facet of our state of constant fear.  Some people fear guns or they fear the people who carry guns.  They want government to pass laws that take away their fears.

The problem is that laws cannot remove fear.  Fear is not created by external circumstances.  It is created by a person’s mental state.  The government could make every gun in America illegal and it wouldn’t reduce anyone’s fear of guns.

I don’t know when we turned into a nation of people who believe that being safe and secure is more important then being free but fear is the driving force behind the change.   Instead of expecting government to shield us from our every fear it would be a lot more healthier for liberty if people would simply come to grips with their fear.    In order to do this there needs to be a change of heart based on the realization that there are things in life that are worth the risk of suffering loss or pain or even death.

The recent shooting at VA Tech is a good example.  At some point in time we became a nation of people that run away from the gun shots instead of running towards them.  We need to return to teaching our children (especially our boys) that there are things that are worse then death.  Trying to hide in a crack or under a desk while someone walks around shooting at you and your friends like fish in a barrel is a good example of one of these things.  I am not blaming the hundreds of young men who ran away (with the girls) from a single armed gunmen but I do blame a society that taught them to behave that way.

Hello world!

Observations

This is the first post since porting this blog onto my own webserver.  I know that just by admitting that I have my own webserver I have reached new heights in dweeb status.  Fortunately dweebs can be men too.

While setting up this site I wrote a blurb for the “about” tab.  I’m posting it here too because it is substance and I don’t have time to write more today.

The word “man” is used to describe just about anyone these days.

Take for example the “man” who recently gave birth to a child. The courts and the press have decided to call this person a man regardless of the fact that she lacks a Y chromosome (and some other more obvious parts).

Just as bizarre is the so-called “metro man” phenomenon. The Urban Dictionary defines a metro man as…

“A heterosexual man whose masculinity goes beyond the stereotyped masculine, thus, he is not confined to a normative definition of masculinity, defining and expressing his sexuality creatively. They are secure in their sexuality, and their sensitivity, intuition and penchant for grooming, style and fashion doesn’t make them feel any less masculine or any less heterosexual. A metro man is the image of a modern man.”

A metrosexual is a metro man.”

To paraphrase, the guy is so masculine he is no longer masculine.  It makes sense to me.  I found a picture of one of these guys. The article that contained the photo has since been taken off-line but I saved a few paragraphs and have included them below…
A metro man

A metro man

PARIS (AFP) - Macho man is an endangered species, with today’s male more likely to opt for a pink flowered shirt and swingers’ clubs than the traditional role as family super-hero, fashion industry insiders say. A study along these lines led by French marketing and style consultants Nelly Rodi was unveiled to Fashion Group International during a seminar Tuesday on future strategy for the fashion industry in Europe.

“The masculine ideal is being completely modified. All the traditional male values of authority, infallibility, virility and strength are being completely overturned,” said Pierre Francois Le Louet, the agency’s managing director.”

Who is behind modification of the masculine ideal? I doubt that there are any real men involved. Gays and feminists are the most likely participants. In case you are wondering, I don’t hate gays or feminists. However,  I think they have a common agenda to redefine what is considered to be manliness. Both groups have no use for and see no value in manly men.

Finally, here are three other examples of the misuse of the word “man”. Larry Craig, Bill Clinton and Rod Blagojevich. All three of these guys were caught red-handed breaking the law and not one of them possessed humility enough to step down or step aside to someone better. Yep, I’m claiming that humility is manly trait. If you lack humility you don’t deserve to be called “man”.  At the very least you are a lesser man.. the margarine of man.

What would 99% of today’s professional athletes think of that statement?  They would disagree with me because the masculine ideal has already been modified.
