John P. Holdren, who is now director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, is an advocate of some radical ideas. It is scary that a top advisor to the president promotes things such as “world of zero net physical growth” and “population limitation”.
A world of zero net physical growth is another way of saying “a world of zero net improvement for its inhabitants”. Holden believes that 1. There are too many people on Earth and 2. The people who are here need to stop growing.
What exactly does the term “stop growing” mean to average citizens of the world? Limits to family size comes to mind. Limits to possession of goods and services. Limits to land ownership (if it is allowed at all). Limits to the accumulation of wealth (for some people).
I have to emphasize the accumulation of wealth FOR SOME PEOPLE. Holdren cannot honestly expect us to believe that his vision will apply to all of the people of the world. What he envisions might apply to 99% of us but will it apply to the world’s elite? It seems doubtful when you look at today’s eco-evangelists. Let’s look at Al Gore for example.
Gore jets around, when not inhabiting his over-sized mansion, telling everybody else how much they need to change their lifestyles. Gore’s carbon footprint is gigantic compared to those whom he wants to limit.
This is probably a glimpse of the future looking us in the face. A small number of elitists placing limits of growth on the rest of the world’s inhabitants. This not only keeps 99% of mankind under foot, but it also lays the earth and its remaining resources at the feet of the elite 1%. They can use what they want, nobody else is allowed.
