I’m having an on-going debate with a couple of friends over whether there is in fact two political parties.
At one time I thought that there was a large difference between the Republicans and the Democrats. That was before I saw how the Republicans ran the show during the Bush Jr years. There was exactly no difference fiscally between the Bush administration and its Republican congress and previous Democrat administrations. Both spent money like a drunken sailor and both were corrupted by their power.
What we have running our country is one party or group of people that take turns at sharing power. Half of the party gives lip service to social issues that draw about half of the electorate while the other half of the party gives lip service to the remaining social issues in order to dupe most of the remaining electorate. Neither party cares anything about principle. Their only concern is maintaining power. By keeping the nation divided against itself they prevent the formation of competing parties while maintaining the status quo.
While the electorate is busy bickering over social issues (most of which should be settled on the state or local level of government) both partys coast along sharing power, buying influence with our tax dollars while selling out America for political gain. Democrats and Republicans rail against each other while the cameras are rolling before flying off to Florida where they share adjoining condos and dine together and laugh at the unclean masses after the cameras are turned off.
America needs another party. The Republocrats are running the USA into the ground.
